Up Helly Aa
Always held on the last Tuesday in January, Europe's largest Fire Festival passes the front doors of the Community Centre and Hostel. After the procession the partying goes on all night in venues throughout Lerwick. Admission to most venues is by invitation but tickets can be bought for a couple of the halls. Please check local press for details.

One of the best in the world. Always on during the weekend before the first Monday in May the Folk Festival starts at 1:00pm on the Thursday and carries on for another four nights. Early booking for the Hostel, which is right next door to the Festival Club, is essential.
